10,000 steps per day is a new achievement that most people try to unlock, especially in this endemic era where people seek to have a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

Based on a very well-fit article, the concept of 10,000 steps a day originally became popular in Japan and was not based on medical research. However, most researchers have come to believe that this theory is useful and encouraged to make it a daily routine.

The purpose of this program is to encourage Malaysians, especially those who are less involved in physical activities to be more active as it was initially dedicated to everyone regardless of their ages.

Rather than just spending time doing nothing, it is an excellent approach to encourage yourself to exercise more to get a fit body and lose weight.

Talking about weight loss, 10,000 steps per day can burn around 200-300 calories per day with moderate to intense physical activity. The number of calories you burn while walking depends primarily on your weight and your exercise speed.

There are some types of exercise such as yoga, strength training, boating, and cycling that are convenient but do not significantly affect your daily steps.

Ellysa Paul, 23, an Exercise Therapist, said that ‘A 10,000 Steps A Day’ program can give awareness to the public that it is important for their health.

“Among the upsides of walking 10,000 steps a day can revitalise an individual’s body,” she said in an interview with Berita DIMENSi through Google Meet.

Sharing further, Ellysa Paul likewise utilizes an application to work with the computation of steps she requires in a day.

"There is an application that makes it easier to calculate the steps we use. It is called the Huawei Health App that can make it easier for us to calculate how many steps we walk in a day,” she added.

The Huawei Health App can be used to track our walking steps.

These 10,000 steps is a challenging activity if it is done outdoors due to surrounding area factors such as hilly or uneven road surfaces.

According to Ellysa Paul, 10,000 steps activity can only be done on a treadmill but it is better if people can do it outside the house since it is more challenging.

She also mentioned that the activity should be done from now on by all ages regardless of religion and race as this activity is challenging and can produce a healthy, active and intelligent society.

Let’s practice a healthy lifestyle together by starting to walk 10,000 steps a day.
